Practice. Continuing to force myself to practice.
I'll try to at least shade this later.

Experience Points
A work in progress. I'm trying to get better at things I'm just not good at (backgrounds, environments, digital painting) annnd it's slowly coming along. More Thaedin artwork. Trying to explore the relationships between the alien plants and whatnot. If you're interested in following this piece past this point, keep an eye on my tumblr account: Thaedin Events.
It's new and features only work based in my "head-world". If you like that sorta stuff, follow it. It updates pretty frequently.

Mudbox Acquired
Went ahead and downloaded Autodesk Mudbox to try and get some familiarity with the program and better myself, yada yada.
First attempt! Couldn't figure out eyes. Have to find a way to fix that.
Anyway. Not bad right? Another one of my Kravos-guys. Lookin' a lot like the character Jeorah (who is nothing special as far as Kraves go).
More fun stuff at a later date!

Just a Preview
Been working on a digital painting of a new character. I don't really have too much to say except that there's a lot of time put into it just so far and a lot more to go I think. I'm not very good with digital painting, but I'm improving.
He's a proud member of one of my numerous personal species and he's a domestic terrorist...yay?

Lazy 5 Ranch
A few weeks ago, I went up to NC and spent time with my family and my best friends. Laura (La-price) and I went to an extreme petting zoo called Lazy 5 Ranch, in which the animals jam their heads into the car and try to eat all of your stuff and steal your buckets for over an hour. She took a lot of pictures for me (my camera died) so I chose one of our favorite moments and doodled on top of it, just like I promised I would.
I know it doesn't seem like it in the photo, but that is a huge cow. It couldn't even fit its mouth in the bucket of feed, and so tried to steal the whole thing instead. There were buckets all over the ground near them, so I know that they've succeeded on that count numerous times.
Anyway, Laura, I miss you.

Vivarium
Been doing some work in SkethUp, and I opened my practice with an enclosure I've been in the process of building for my bearded dragon, Irwin. Everything is measured out rather precisely and I have to say I'm quite pleased with how it's going to look. Right now, I've finished all of the glass panels, and hopefully I can slap together the majority of the other pieces tomorrow.
Here is the 3D rendering from an awkward angle, by the way:
Anyway, aside from that, been playing with alien architecture and trying to get decent with the program.

NOW IN 3D!
Caitlin and I got our hands on Sketch up finally and we're having so much fun. As one of my first images, I made a Playstation 3.
Ok, back to work...

Rock the Dragon
Wow it's been over a month! That's kind of bad. Miss us...maybe...no? Ok. Well anyway here is something cool. I drew the Androids from Dragonball.
I was trying to keep fanart from popping up on here but I really like the way this came out. Plus, I gave it my own style, if that counts for anything. Anyway, let me know what you think; and don't worry we'll try to be more active this month.

New Job (kind of) and Other Things
Just managed to transfer to the Target in my area after 5 months of watching and waiting for an opening. It was a struggle to get in, but I managed, and ended up with the same position to boot (Electronics Sales if anyone was wondering). Adjusting has made me pretty busy so sorry for the lack of update. Today, however, I was thinking about my little sister Meg and felt like drawing this:
He has a skinny face. I like his horns, even if he's a sorta...asymmetrical.
Anyway, that's it. Not too much going on right now.
You Should Have Stayed a Toy Maker.
Long time no see...or post, or whatever. We've both been very busy this month between work and school and all that fun stuff. Me? Well, I just got back from the dentist...
For most of my morning, the bottom of my mouth has been completely numb. It's a pretty interesting experience, especially when you are trying to eat. Needless to say I felt and looked like that all day. And if that wasn't funny enough, I got to talk like Daffy Duck all morning. Oh well, I'm(for the most part) all better now and my gums look damn sexy! Hopefully June will be a more productive month for this blog. If not, see you in December when this title actually becomes relevant.

Now in Technicolor
This started as just a bunch of thumb nail sketches. Little doodles of objects lying around the house: my apple, a Playstation controller, my(read Kat's) speakers and...IS THAT A MOUNTAIN!?
I don't know why but I just started drawing a mountain. Kat liked it so much that I inked and colored it.

Easy Like Sunday Morning
Was doodling this morning while Kat was at school. I really liked the way the image came out so I decided to re-draw it in Photoshop. There is a surprise twist though; I used the pencil tool(Bum-bum-bum!). The lines came out really clean so I'm happy. After a short break I'm going to go back and color it. Until then, go back to staring at Kat's awesome Dragon.

The Lion King
So I had won tickets to The Lion King (the live musical) in a raffle on Friday, and I went to see it with Mike yesterday. It was pretty awesome, 'nough said about that. Before the show I had been working on this:
It's one of the First Dragons important to my personal stories and lore. It's ballpoint pen over an initially un-detailed sketch. The little cut off scribbles are part of a crude size comparison chart (by the way I settled on them being about 20 feet tall). For those of you who didn't know, ballpoint pen is one of my favorite mediums to work with. Especially really cheap ballpoint pens. They're like permanent pencils. Anyway, this is the first time in a while that I have worked on an intricate scale pattern. It's a sketch, but I'm fairly happy with this.

Making Faces
This is Sparky:
Whenever I need to practice something, in this case facial expressions, I use sparky as my go to template. I do this for two reasons; one, it helps me practice consistency (hopefully he looks the same in each drawing); and two, well he's just fun to draw. On a side note, I love the image on the bottom right. Mostly because the slicked back hair makes him look like a creepy Phoenix Wright.

Paper or Plastic?
I have successfully invaded Caitlin's blog! She added me this morning and yet I haven't made a single contribution to this thing...until now. So here it is, the moment you've all been waiting for. MY FIRST POST!
It's BAG BOY! He's the super mundane front service clerk. His powers include picking between Paper and Plastic(sometimes both!), getting carts, and cleaning the floors. His weakness, bathrooms!
For those of you interested in what I do all day. |
Keeping Busy
Been working on updating the pages. So far I have what I could get done
of the 'About Us' page. Wrote a little blurb about my life, reminded me
that I made this a few weeks ago.
They are my fish Luke and Vader.
They were done in a watercolor Moleskine notebook that I got for Christmas. Used watercolor colored pencils and Prismacolor pens for inking. Waiting on Mike to get home to finish his bit of the 'About Us' page. There isn't much to do so I'll just draw a few things and upload them later. And work on the other pages too, I guess.

Additional Author
Hey everybody, I've gone ahead and added another person to the blog: my long-time boyfriend Mike! He'll be posting his day-to-day things as well so just as a reminder you may have to look at the authors of the posts if you can't tell who it is already. That's all I have right now, but it's early so maybe more later.

Oh and Real Quick...
I was catching up with my friend Laura, and she asked me to draw her character and one of mine having a mud-fight. So here you go girl!
A First Time for Everything...
Okay, so it's here that I hope to start posting work unseen by the Internet, which is just about all of my work. I'll play with ideas, show you things I wasn't supposed to be doing in class, and probably complain about my day. Oh and hearing from you guys wouldn't be so bad.
I thought that I should start things off by posting some scraps I did the other day. These guys were originally all randomly generated closed shapes, then I turned them into critters.
As you can see, these guys got pretty weird pretty quickly. I would have to say that my favorite is the sheepy-cowish thing in the bottom left-hand corner of the page.
This was an incredibly fun exercise and I recommend it to other bored or uninspired people.
Anyway, I'm hoping to have something more exciting next time, but I probably won't.
